Our History
Crenshaw Lighting Co. was started by my father William Crenshaw in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1957. From the beginning, the company specialized in hand-made-to-order decorative lighting fixtures. At first the firm focused primarily on Church lighting projects, but soon expanded to historic restoration and replication projects, and then to new custom fixtures in all styles for commercial buildings.
Over the years the company has built a reputation as one of the finest lighting studios in the Country, and although the business has been passed down to me and my wife Jackie, the company continues to uphold the legacy of quality established by its founder. Our aim remains to be at the top of the lampmaking craft.
In 1989, the business moved to a facility in the Blue Ridge Mountain community of Floyd, Virginia where it is today. The business has grown and now operates out of a 25,000 sq. ft. studio designed specifically to produce hand-made lighting fixtures. We have developed a new generation of craftsmen and fixture designers, and have also re-tooled our company to meet the challenges of lighting for the 21st century.
As we launch this new website in January of 2009, we are, in many ways, a very different company than the one my father started. However, our core business philosophy remains the same, because we continue to believe that building quality products, maintaining long-term relationships, and being a reliable partner for our customers and our community, is still important. In fact more important than ever.
