Gothic Post Lantern
Custom Lighting is presented for design inspiration and as an example of our work. Exact duplication of this original design is restricted. Handmade in the USA.
This Gothic post lantern was created for the University of Michigan’s Law Quad based on historic bracket lantern sconces which line several exterior locations around the Quad. Crenshaw undertook the replication process through digital scanning to ensure no disturbance or handling of the original fixtures, which were to remain in their installed locations throughout replication. Custom tooling was created and fixtures were cast in brass. The post was solid machined brass, so as to lend a monumental quality to this fixture. The complete fixture weighs over 500 pounds. The finish is a multi-step hand-applied Aged Verdigris patina, and lamped with cold-temperature rated 4-pin compact fluorescent lamping behind frosted clear seed acrylic lenses.
