The 15-foot diameter Silas chandelier Crenshaw built for the nave of the church directly references the original historic candle chandeliers of the Hagia Sophia in Turkey.

The family of custom chandeliers Crenshaw provided for St. George Greek Orthodox Church in 2004 were inspired by historic chandeliers which hang in the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. The Hagia Sophia is one of the oldest and largest churches of the ancient world and served as a center for the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly a thousand years. Now a museum, it features a series of monumental openwork ring chandeliers which suspend hundreds of feet from its high dome.

The Silas chandelier Crenshaw built for the nave of the church directly references the original wax candle-lit fixtures of the Hagia Sophia. The Silas is fifteen feet in diameter and constructed of solid barstock brass. Fifty-six custom hand-blown frosted amber opal glass shades line the perimeter and interior rings. A smaller chandelier was designed to accompany the Silas. Both were finished in a custom dark bronze lacquer and can be viewed in more detail in our product gallery.
