U. S. Bureau of Engraving, Washington, DC
Architect: Baker Associates
Clean lines and modern simplicity draw the eye to the lobby centerpiece fixture.
The ten-foot-long fixture designed by Baker Associates to highlight the Bureau of Engraving’s reception area is distinguished by its clear, crisp lines. It is fabricated from just two materials: stainless steel and glass and incorporates a variety of custom designed stainless steel fasteners. The subtle light patterns are achieved by backlighting panels of laminated glass. Task lighting for the desk is provided by low voltage halogen downlights fitted along the cylindrical center “spine” of the fixture.
Small complementary wall sconces were created in brushed stainless steel for providing ambient uplighting throughout the lobby and main hallways. Similar styling was brought to a more elaborately constructed set of torchiere-style sconces which line the walls of a meeting room.
