Crenshaw Lights Up Paul Barrett, Jr. Library at Rhodes College

When construction began on the Paul Barrett, Jr. Library at Rhodes College in 2003, Crenshaw was selected to create the decorative lighting for the building in the Gothic style prevalent throughout the campus. Eight types, 70 fixtures in all, comprise the complete collection. The proportions are classic; the materials are heavy-gauge solid brass; and the construction mixes hand-hammered, custom cast, and fabricated construction, all finished in a hand-applied patina.

Expert Craftsmanship in Gothic Style

The collaboration between Crenshaw and the architectural team at Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas resulted in lighting fixtures that perfectly complement the Gothic architecture of the library. The intricate designs and attention to detail showcase the expert craftsmanship that Crenshaw is known for in the industry.

Enduring Quality and Timeless Elegance

With a focus on enduring quality, the lighting design by Fisher Marantz Stone for the Paul Barrett, Jr. Library stands the test of time. The heavy-gauge solid brass materials ensure longevity, while the hand-applied patina adds a touch of timeless elegance to the overall aesthetic of the building.

Award-Winning Design

The exceptional work done by Crenshaw and the lighting design team at Fisher Marantz Stone did not go unnoticed. In 2007, the project received the prestigious Palladio Award, recognizing the outstanding achievement in traditional design and craftsmanship. This accolade further solidifies the reputation of Crenshaw and its partners as leaders in architectural lighting design.

Legacy of Excellence

As the Paul Barrett, Jr. Library continues to illuminate the campus of Rhodes College, the legacy of excellence in design and craftsmanship lives on. The Gothic style lighting fixtures by Crenshaw not only provide functional illumination but also contribute to the overall beauty and architectural integrity of the library, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.
