United States Capitol
In 2012, Crenshaw Lighting partnered closely with the Architect of the Capitol to meticulously replicate a lost City Beautiful-era bowl chandelier for Room S-238, the Strom Thurmond Room, using only low-resolution historic photographs as a guide. Our craftsmen skillfully recreated over fifteen original cast brass elements, chased, assembled, and polished them to an aged, polished finish, while integrating energy-efficient LED screwbase replacement lamps in the downward-facing open globes to preserve the fixture’s historic aesthetic and visibility from below, complemented by a centered downward globe and new trim detailing. The design further enhanced the ornate ceiling with uplighting via four-pin compact fluorescent lamps, delivering optimal ambient illumination, all validated by photometric studies to balance historical character with modern performance, resulting in an exceptional custom fixture that honors this iconic space.
