Rhodes College

When construction began on the Paul Barrett, Jr. Library at Rhodes College in 2003, Crenshaw was selected to create the decorative lighting for the building in the Gothic style prevalent throughout the campus. Eight types, 70 fixtures in all, comprise the complete collection. The proportions are classic; the materials are heavy-gauge solid brass; and the construction mixes hand-hammered, custom cast, and fabricated construction, all finished in a hand-applied antique brass patina. Our craftsmen’s expertise in brass metalwork is especially prominent in the hand-hammered antique brass construction of the library’s newel post fixtures. This project won a Palladio Award in 2007. The architect was Hanbury Evens Wright Vlattas and the lighting designer was FMS.
